Gordon Orr

Gordon is a Director and Chairman of McKinsey Asia, based in Shanghai. He was responsible for establishing McKinsey's China practice, with the opening of offices in Shanghai and Beijing in 1993 and 1995, respectively. From 1999 to 2004, he served as managing director of McKinsey's Greater China offices. He has lived in China for nearly two decades.

Gordon previously led the Strategy and Business Technology Practices in Asia. He currently serves on McKinsey's Shareholder's Council, the firm's senior governance body. He has served clients in a range of industries across Asia - including high tech, telecoms, and consumer goods - helping transform institutions from local and regional players into global leaders.

Gordon is the author of several articles on topics such as corporate governance and the globalization of Asian companies, and is the founder of the Chinese-language edition of The McKinsey Quarterly. He is a frequent speaker at major business fora such as the World Economic Forum's Summer Davos in Dalian. He is the co-founder of the McKinsey Council of China Business Economists (MCCBE), a group comprised of leading economists dedicated to advancing the debate on critical economics issues in China.
